Academy Soccer

Academy Soccer

The GFC Academy offers our soccer players the chance to take their soccer abilities to the next level. Licensed coaches work with the academy players to improve their technical soccer skills and will help them improve as players as they continue in recreational soccer or make the jump into select soccer.

Club Training (U7 - U10 age groups)

If you're looking for more than recreational soccer but not ready to commit to a full competitive season, we will provide the opportunity of weekly training sessions led by our coaching staff and assisted by our Select players.  The sessions will help players improve their gross motor skills and technical ability with ball mastery, passing, shooting, and 1v1 activities. The goal is to improve competence and confidence on the ball. We hope to build a love for the game of soccer in a low-pressure environment.

Academy Soccer (U8 & U9 age groups)

The GFC Academy offers players and parents a transition into Select (competitive) Soccer.  This an opportunity to train with US Soccer Federation licensed coaches that are going to focus on improving players’ technical skills (ball mastery, passing, shooting, 1v1 and 2v2, and more) in a more structured manner based on the overall Club Curriculum. The program is built to teach young players how to train, the work level required to be successful at the next level, and how to love the beautiful game.

The Academy has two 75-minute training sessions per week.  Playdates with other Academies in the area will be scheduled each season with the intent of putting the training to use in a competitive environment.  The focus at the playdates is to foster a competitive nature, develop skills at game speed, and fun, never on winning.  During a playdate, the teams will compete with 7 players per side, including Goalkeepers. Some travel (typically within a 90 minute drive of Georgetown) may occur for these playdates.

The focus of the academy is truly on improving individuals within the team. Coaches want to see players be brave and try new creative things on the soccer field.

Players interested in joining the Academy must try out during the club’s select tryouts that are offered in May or June. Joining the Academy is a one-year commitment and includes both the Fall and Spring Seasons. The program also covers a six-week winter indoor training session as well as access to any additional training sessions offered by the club, including but not limited to Speed, Agility, and Goalkeeper Training.

Players that miss the tryout window may speak with the Academy Director for an individual assessment at any time prior to the season.
