The GFC Academy offers our soccer players the chance to take their soccer to the next level. Licensed coaches work with the academy players to improve their technical soccer skills and will help them improve as players as they continue in recreational soccer or make the jump into select soccer.
Our Pre-Academy players continue to play with their recreational soccer team but also get the chance to train with a licensed coach once a week. Coaches will help players improve their technical skills with ball mastery, passing, shooting, and 1v1 ability. The goal is to improve competence and confidence on the ball. We hope to build a love for the game of soccer in a low-pressure environment. The pre-academy program will serve as a valuable bridge between our 8U program, and academy or 10U recreational program.
The GFC Academy offers our recreational players an opportunity to train with licensed coaches that are going to focus on improving players’ technical skills (ball mastery, passing, shooting, 1v1 and 2v2, and more). The coach is also teaching players how to train, how to put in the work required to take their game to the next level. Some players return back to the recreational soccer pathway, but most go on to play with one of our select teams.
The Academy has two 75-minute training sessions per week. The academy divides into teams to participates in 6 regional playdates organized by the Kentucky Youth Soccer Association. During a playdate, the teams compete in two back to back 7v7 games (with Goalkeepers). GFC hosts several playdates but some may occur within a short drive of Georgetown.
The focus of the academy is truly on improving individuals within the team. Coaches want to see players be brave and try new things on the soccer field.
Players interested in joining the Academy must try out during the club’s select tryouts that are offered in May or June. Joining the Academy is a one-year commitment and includes both the Fall and Spring Seasons. The program also covers a six-week winter indoor training session as well as access to our club’s Speed and Agility training as well as our Goalkeeper Training.
Players that miss the tryout window may speak with the Academy Director for an individual assessment to see if they are ready to join the Academy mid-season.
